Being a young entrepreneur, I can tell you I have not done things the easy way. I wish there was a group like the Bookkeeping Success Circle that I could have referenced when I was struggling with some of my growth issues.
When I first started out I was charging $35.00 an hour for bookkeeping services. I thought when it came to pricing my services I should just use the same rate my competitors were using. I really did not put any thought into my rate per hour until I was tired of not making any real money. I found I was giving away free advice, services, working all the time and my rate per hour did not support what I wanted to make in a year. I was hungry and did anything to get the business in the door. That came with a price. I found I was not attracting the type of client I wanted to have. I would rush in to fix the problem, but would find myself in the heat of their drama. These clients would be so happy that their issue was resolved and then would begin to nickel and dime me about how much I charged for my services.
How do you protect yourself from these types of clients? Learning how to say NO! Putting boundaries together and executing them was one of the hardest lessons I have learned. It is ok to say no. Your client's emergency is not your emergency. I started to ask more in-depth questions in my interview process. Instead of the client just interviewing me, I would interview the client to see if they were the type of client I wanted to have. I changed my perspective in my sales process in order to find the right client. In my initial sales meeting I would ask some of the following questions:
1. Are you presently working with a bookkeeper?
2. If you could re-write how your current bookkeeping services are being done what would you change?
3. What is the company structure and how do you pay yourself?
4. What are your goals and objectives for your business?
The more I got the client to open up to me, the more I learned about what some of the real key issues were. I started listening to the client instead of selling my services first. Things like money issues became red flags and if they went through several bookkeepers, the reasons just unfolded. As a business owner it is sometimes hard to juggle the multitude of hats we wear in the business. Our personal feeling of doing a good job and wanting to help fix the business owner problems often gets in the way of our own business objectives. So next time when you are bringing in a new client, take more time to interview the client and know it is ok to say NO.

Using An Adult Allowance To Increase Savings

Using An Adult Allowance To Increase Savings   by Martin Fister

Most people can remember a time as a child when they received an allowance. Maybe they mowed the lawn or vacuumed the house. Whatever it was, your parents would give you a few dollars each week to reward your work. This money was yours, and could be used on anything you wanted. This is a practice that people might want to consider applying to themselves as it can serve as a great way to help you save money.
The reason behind an adult allowance is that adopting this kind of policy can help you monitor your finances better. By setting aside say $50 each week for pleasure spending, you are able to keep a stronger hand on your budget. It will limit your idle purchases as you will be restricted to just using that small fund that you set aside. This practice will also help you better appreciate each purchase as you're increasing the opportunity cost of every personal purchase. You're essentially increasing the significance of every action you make.
This policy is really no different than budgeting, as you could also just allocate money to different segments of your expenses on a regular basis. However, it is a bit stricter than budgeting as you are essentially creating a hard max as you don't have more than the allowance available.
It's a strange concept that serves as a throwback to our yesteryears, but it can also be a great way to help improve our savings. Restrict your pleasure spending and you'll be sure to expand your savings.

Making Money By Reduced Spending

Making Money By Reduced Spending   by Martin Fister

Many people are searching for ways to make more money. To achieve this goal, people look for get rich quick schemes or new business ventures to start or even just enter the stock market with hopes of hitting it big. However, while all of these methods have some potential to turn a profit, they are all very high risk and can require a great deal of work. In the end, one of the best, if not simplest ways to make more money, is simply to cut your spending.
By cutting your spending, you are essentially increasing the amount of money you have at the end of every month. With this money, you can even invest in low risk options and still ensure that overtime, you will see a substantial amount of increased income as you develop a greater nest egg. This money can be invested into bonds or mutual funds that track the stock market, or even something as simple as a reward checking account.
How to cut spending? There are a variety of ways you can do this. One big way to save money is by shopping around for new insurance plans. Auto insurance can be a big expense, and many companies are willing to offer you a lower rate to get you to switch. This type of savings is huge as it's not a one time savings but instead, helps put more money in your pocket every month.
Another great way to cut spending is by learning to say no. Sure something might look really cool, but do you really need it? By asking yourself this question, you will be more likely to put things back on the shelf, saving you a ton of money over the long term.
It can be hard to make money, but it's usually not hard to find ways to reduce your spending. And when all is said and done, spending less is almost the same thing as making more.
